Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Can I use bottled orange juice for orange cake?
Fresh orange juice gives this cake the best flavor, especially when paired with fresh orange zest. If necessary, bottled orange juice can be used, but choose one with a simple ingredient list and no added flavors.
How do I get the most orange flavor in this cake?
Use both fresh orange juice and orange zest. Most of the concentrated citrus aroma comes from the zest, so don't skip it if you want a strong orange flavor.
Can I make this orange cake with a different citrus fruit?
Yes. You can experiment with other citrus fruits, such as lemon or tangerine, although the flavor and sweetness may vary.
How do I make orange glaze for cake?
An orange glaze can be made by combining powdered sugar with orange juice until you reach a smooth, pourable consistency. Add the juice gradually so the glaze doesn't become too thin.
How should I store orange cake with glaze?
Store the cooled cake covered at room temperature for several days. If your kitchen is particularly warm, you can refrigerate it, but let the cake come to room temperature before serving for the best texture.
